“At times, our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark
from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep
gratitude of those who lighted the flame within us.”

- Albert Schweitzer

This October feels different than any other October that I’ve ever experienced. We are still in the midst of a global pandemic, and our political and environmental landscape is unparalleled in my lifetime. The season is still changing, the sideways slant to the light is still there, the skies are clearing from all the smoke, but there is
an uncertainty that is palpable. It is as if our lives are on hold until “this too shall pass”. Everyone that I speak with is holding this tension in one way or another. I find myself turning inward for the strength to affect positive change.

Recently I was able to take a half day mini-retreat by myself. I encourage women to do this all the time, and yet I have found myself avoiding the experience during this challenging time. Thanks to the urging of a few wise mentors, I set aside a morning to be outside on a beautiful piece of land in solitude. I meditated, stretched, soaked in the mountain view, sang, danced, wrote, applied Console essential oil blend, asked for guidance, and received unbelievable clarity of purpose and trust in the future. As a family wellness coach I spend a lot of time guiding and encouraging others, and it was so powerful to receive the messages of optimism and positivity that I needed in those few hours alone.

The Earth and divine inspiration are speaking to us daily, and yet we are so busy with the details of our busy lives that we seldom pay attention. I was so appreciative of being able to take the time to slow down, tune in, and pay attention to the messages that came. As women we have intuition and deep knowledge that is within us. We have the answers that we seek if we just wake up and acknowledge this power. Also as women, we need to remind each other of these gifts that we possess, and encourage each other to tap into the wisdom that is innate in each of us. Our mothers and grandmothers may have known this, or they might have been ignoring the whispers from within. Whether this knowledge was passed down or not, it is time for us to reclaim our birthright. We have the power to bring life into the world, and we have the strength and wisdom to make the right choices for ourselves, our families, our communities, and the planet. We just need to be reminded…

Recently my husband and I listened to the book Manifesto for a Moral Revolution by Jacqueline Novogratz. It is an incredibly inspiring and uplifting collection of stories of positive change-makers. The author has worked with so many individuals who are making a huge difference in the lives of others around the world. She speaks of the moral courage that it takes to lead these lives of purpose and service, and her life is an example of this as well. I have been filled with hope and inspiration from listening to this book, and am grateful to the friend who recommended it for our book club!

It is essential that we lift each other up and support the important work that we are doing in the world… individually and collectively. Every choice, action, interaction, and conversation that we make or conduct has the possibility to impact so many others. It is important that we take the time to think deeply about these choices that we make.

I am so grateful for the work that I am doing, and feel strongly that whether it is by helping someone by listening, guiding them with parenting decisions, supporting them with essential oil choices, or inspiring families through my podcast, my life is one of purpose that is aligned with my values. I also know that I learn daily from those around me, and I am grateful for those who share with me and rekindle my flame. I hope that we can reach out to each other through the challenging days ahead, and be the spark that keeps all of our flames burning brightly.

Take Care,
Maria
